About me

«When I grow up I want to play!» (Giusy)

Brief Intro

Hi!
My name is Giusy aka Semidiarcobaleno, since I was a baby, playing has always been a fundamental piece of my existence. If I had to tell something about myself, the first revealing clue of my future career dates back to when as a child I was asked what I wanted to do when I got older and I answered with crystal confidence: “When I grow up I want to play!”
I love the world of childhood so much so that I made it my life’s work. I constantly try to look at the world with the eyes of a child, in a simple and light way, finding joy in the little things and always being ready to get on a swing, enter a soap bubble or create a fantastic world made of stories and games.

Job Experience

My journey in the universe of children began about twenty years ago as an entertainer at the summer schools of the city of Rome and since then my range of skills has been enriched with multiple techniques and activities that I propose in workshops as well as in private events such as customized birthday parties, weddings or other occasions.
Alongside the role of animator, I served for several years in kindergartens as a teacher, having the opportunity to acquire new tools that I blended into the creativity workshops aimed at the expression of the body and emotions.
In recent years, I engaged with greater continuity to my greatest passion: storytelling, in particular using the kamishibai, an ancient traditional Japanese technique of children’s theater.

Pedagogic Strategy

At the foundation of my strategy lies the belief that playing is the natural element of childhood, its language and its discipline. It is in the intrinsic lightness of playful activity that children feel at ease and this is the necessary not only for self-expression but, even more, for any form of personal growth, both cognitive and emotional. It is therefore in the spontaneous comfort of playing that the opportunity arises to promote their innate imagination, inviting them into the most varied types of activities.
Finally, while always remaining attentive to their needs, I turn to the children by maintaining an attitude as equal as possible in order to defuse the inevitable and often involuntary condescension of the adult-child dynamic, which is an insurmountable obstacle to expressive freedom.
These are the principles that by nature and experience constitute the framework of any of my workshops or animation for children.

Education

Alongside numerous certifications in the theatrical and expressive field, I received a diploma in social-health services worker and a qualification certificate in professional socio-pedagogical educator.
